TURLOCK – The No. 13 Coyotes took care of business in convincing fashion on Friday night, winning 6-1 at Stanislaus State.
The Yotes scored two goals in the seventh minute, with Frank Daroma getting one and Jesus Ortega scoring off assists from Kevin Aguilar and Jonathan Garcia. CSUSB struck twice more before half, with Gerardo Flores finishing off an Omari Mark assist in the 36th minute and then Flores again in the 40th minute from Jeronimo Valdapena.
Flores picked up the hat trick in the 56th minute, again from Valdapena. Francisco Gomez scored the final CSUSB goal in the 82nd minute with Valdepena getting his third assist.
For Flores, it marked the second-straight year CSUSB has recorded a hat trick, with Jair Magallan accomplishing the feat last year, which was the first since 2010.
"Two early pregame goals settled any nerves and I felt we were in control from that point forward," head coach Darren Leslie said. "I was delighted for freshman Gerardo Flores, coming back to his hometown with all his family and friends in attendance and not only getting his first collegiate goal but bagging a hat trick. There were moments we could have been better and we will look to polish those off before we play Chico on Sunday."
The Yotes (6-1-1, 3-1 CCAA) scored on six of their 12 shots on goal and only allowed five total shots from the Warriors. They will wrap a month-and-a-half of being on the road on Sunday at Chico State at 2 pm. Live links are on CSUSBathletics.com.
