SAN BERNARDINO (April 6, 2018) — CSUSB handed No. 21 UC San Diego its first eight-run 5-inning loss this season in the Coyotes' split over the Tritons on Friday afternoon at Coyote Park.
The Coyotes (21-13, 12-12 CCAA) and Tritons (24-11, 17-9) resume their weekend series Saturday with first pitch set for 12 p.m.
Game 1: Coyotes 8, UCSD 0 5 innings
CSUSB came alive in the second inning, scoring six runs on five hits for the insurmountable lead.
Monica Maddox connected on a two-run single to cap the inning.
Maddox later added an RBI-single in the third.
At the plate, Maddox was 2-for-3, while
Jamiana Gateb had two hits in as many at-bats. She had two RBI for the game.
On the mound, junior RHP
Amanda Ramirez was the picture of consistency. She improved to 14-7 overall with a four-hit shutout. She retired 12 straight Tritons, beginning with a double-play to end the first. All four hits were singles and only one Triton reached third base.
Game 2: UCSD 13, Coyotes 6
Tied at 4-4 through four innings, the Tritons struck with a three-run fifth that included a Sherriah Harrington lead-off homer.

Morgan Ratliff ripped a three-run homer in the third.
