Coyotes, Concordia split

SAN BERNARDINO (April 14, 2018) — CSUSB took on its final nonconference opponent Saturday night and earned a split over Pac West contender Concordia, losing 6-3 and winning 7-2 at Coyote Park.

The records
CSUSB, now 23-15 overall, plays at Cal State East Bay next weekend. Concordia is 30-11.

Game one

Eagles freshman Callie Nunes brought a 0.38 ERA in more than 140 innings in the opener. She was cruising behind a 4-0 lead until the Coyotes got going in the sixth. Samantha Vacko led off with a single and Morgan Ratliff followed with a two-run shot just left of the scoreboard in right field. Four batters later, Taylor Ancona singled to center that scored Monica Maddox. However, CUI scored two in the seventh for necessary cushion.

Game two

Ancona connected on a two-run single in the fifth and Jessica Brown added a two-run single of her own in the sixth for the win. CSUSB had 11 hits — all singles. Caitlyn Olan and Dominique Walker also had RBI-singles. Freshman Kendra O'Cull earned the win in three innings of scoreless relief.

NCAA Poll

The NCAA will announce its first of three regional polls beginning Wednesday. The Coyotes figure to be anywhere between sixth and 10th in the first poll.
