SAN BERNARDINO (April 27, 2018) — CSUSB neared a CCAA Tournament berth after sweeping visiting Cal State San Marcos in CCAA softball Friday afternoon.
CSUSB, now 27-17 overall and 17-15 CCAA, and Cougars finish the series Saturday, beginning at 12 p.m. The Coyotes need to finish one game ahead of Sonoma State to clinch a CCAA berth. The Seawolves (27-22, 19-17) are at Humboldt State and split their doubleheader Friday.
Game 1: Coyotes 6, CSUSM 3
CSUSB grabbed a 4-0 lead through three innings and remained out front for the win.
The Coyotes scored three runs on four hits in the second.
Briana Quintana and
Monica Maddox each had run-scoring singles, and
Jessica Brown earned an RBI on a bases-loaded hit by pitch.
Quintana added an RBI-double in the third.
Monica Maddox, who went 4-for-4, had an RBI-single in the fourth.
Gabriella Bracamonte scored on an infield fly in the sixth.
On the mound, junior RHP
Amanda Ramirez earned the win by going the distance. She struck out a season-high six batters and allowed nine hits.
Game 2: Coyotes 11, CSUSM 3 5 innings
CSUSB clubbed three home runs from
Jessica Brown,
Dominique Walker and
Caitlyn Olan. The Coyotes led 9-0 through two innings.
Brown's home run was her 14
th of the season. She went 2-for-3 with three RBI. Olan's shot in the second was a three-run blast.
Ratliff led with three hits. On the mound, freshman RHP
Kendra O'Cull got the win in relief of Ramirez, who left through two. O'Cull gave up four hits in three innings and improved to 10-5.
