SAN MARCOS (April 27, 2018) — The Coyotes snapped their five-game losing streak, thanks to senior RHP
Matthew Moriarty's strong outing in a 4-3 victory over host Cal State San Marcos in CCAA baseball.
CSUSB, now 12-31 overall and 12-25 CCAA, and Cougars (19-24, 14-23) resume their series at 3 p.m. Saturday in San Marcos. The Coyotes finish the series at home Sunday, beginning at 1 p.m.
The Coyotes struck with a four-run, four-hit first inning and held off the Cougars.
Gabe Chavez supplied an RBI-triple that drove in leadoff hitter
Ty Lineberger, who singled. Three batters later,
Mando Rodriguez singled through the right side that brought in Chavez.
Garrett Ouellette then added an RBI single of his own, and
Alec Ceniceros later scored.
Moriarty gave up a run in the first inning, and then cruised the next five innings without a run. He finished with five strikeouts, four walks and allowed seven hits. Two of his three runs were earned for his first win of the season in seven decisions.
Senior RHP
Konner Arnold earned the save, his first of the year, by forcing two fly outs and a ground out.
Erick Allegro and Rodriguez each had two hits. CSUSB finished with 10.
