Coyotes sweep Warriors

SAN BERNARDINO (March 17, 2018) — Morgan Ratliff put on a show in the opener, hitting two home runs and accounting with four RBI, and Jessica Brown homered in each game as CSUSB swept visiting Stanislaus State 5-1 and 6-3 in CCAA play Saturday.

The Coyotes, now 14-9 overall and 9-9 in the CCAA, step outside of conference play this week when they participate in the Tournament of Champions in Turlock beginning Friday.

CSUSB is now 18-6 against the Warriors over the last six seasons.

Game 1: Coyotes 5, Warriors 1
Ratliff opened the game with a solo shot to left and finished 3-for-3 with four RBI. She added an RBI-single in the second, and added a two-run homer in the fourth. Brown homered in the third.

Junior RHP Amanda Ramirez retired the first 10 batters and finished with a five-hitter. She struck out two and allowed only one extra-base hit.

Dominique Walker and Jamiana Gateb each doubled, as CSUSB out-hit the Warriors 8-to-5.

Game 2: Coyotes 6, Warriors 3
Down 1-0, CSUSB answered with a two-run second, and put the game out of reach with a four-run third inning.

In the second, Gateb blasted a two-run homer over the center-field wall. And then in the fourth, Monica Maddox scored on an error, and Walker added a single up the middle that scored Ratliff.

Brown added her second home run of the day, this time center scoring Walker and CSUSB led 6-3.

Freshman Kendra McCull struck out four in her four innings and improved to 5-4. Ramirez came on in relief and struck out one for her second save.

On the weekend, Brown went 5-for-9 with three home runs, one double and six RBI. Ratliff was 7-for-12 with three HRs and six RBI.
