SAN BERNARDINO (March 11, 2018) — Senior
Tyler Robles set a school record with six hits in as many at-bats, and then went 2-for-3 in the second game as CSUSB split its doubleheader Sunday against Cal State Dominguez Hills at Fiscalini Field.
The Coyotes were defeated 22-14 in the opener, and then answered back with a 5-1 victory, thanks to RHP
Konner Arnold's nine strikeouts in seven innings.
CSUSB, now 7-11 overall and 7-5 CCAA, takes on Cal Poly Pomona this weekend, beginning at 6 p.m. Friday night at Fiscalini.
Game 1: Cal State Dominguez Hills 22, Coyotes 14
Robles had two doubles with four singles, and
Gabe Chavez went 4-for-5 with two RBI, but the Toros totaled 19 hits and won going away.
The Coyotes led 14-10 through four innings, but the Toros answered back with a four-run sixth, a three-run seventh and a five-run eighth.
Alec Ceniceros had four RBI with two hits.
Fourteen times a Coyote had five hits in a game in school history.
Game 2: Coyotes 5, Cal State Dominguez Hills 1
CSUSB, which trailed 1-0 after two innings, used a five-run fourth and Arnold did the rest for the series split.
In the fourth, Robles and
Kyle Csakan each had solo home runs over the left-center field wall, and
Ty Lineberger laced a two-run shot to left.
Arnold (3-0) was solid in his best effort of the season. He threw 105 pitches, allowed seven hits and did not issue a walk.
Robles led at the plate, going 2-for-3. He had first in his first two at-bats, establishing a record for consecutive hits.
