Third-quarter rally key to victory

SAN MARCOS (February 9, 2018) — CSUSB bounced back Friday night with an impressive road win over Cal State San Marcos 73-66 in CCAA play.

What the victory means
CSUSB's victory was an important one as the Cougars were one-half game ahead of the Coyotes for eighth place in the conference entering Friday night. The game is the only time the two teams meet this season and the Coyotes, now 10-12, 8-10 CCAA, own the edge over CSUSM (7-14, 7-10) in the event of a tie-breaker for tourney qualification. The top eight teams advance to the conference tournament.

Who stood out?
Four Coyotes scored in double figures, and they were led by Sabrea Coleman's 19 points. Jordan Mottershaw was next with 13 points, followed by Arianna Knox (12) and Kaitlyn Parks (10). Ashley Carson had nine.

The final edge
CSUSB, which trailed 44-39 with 4:18 remaining in the third quarter, found another gear and and made CSUSM pay. The Coyotes outscored the Cougars 14-2 over the next three-plus minutes and the game was never less than two possessions the rest of the way. Both Knox and Coleman scored four points apiece in that stretch.

What's next?
CSUSB returns to Coussoulis Arena on Saturday when it takes on CCAA-leading UC San Diego.
