Coyotes claw back against Trailblazers

ST. GEORGE, Utah (February 9, 2018) — CSUSB, which trailed 8-1 through eight innings, answered back with a seven-run ninth in its 9-8 loss in 11 innings to nationally-ranked Dixie State.
 
The Coyotes (0-2) play Dixie State tomorrow afternoon, and again Sunday to complete their opening weekend.

CSUSB scored seven runs on five hits when it sent 11 to the plate in the ninth. All seven runs were scored with two outs and the inning was kept alive when Anthony McDougle, who struck out, reached on a throwing error by the catcher.
 
Gabe Chavez and Shawn Porthan each had three hits, while Mando Rodriguez and Kyle Csakan had two hits.
 
Junior RHP Dylan Stablein threw 3 1/3 innings of relief with four strikeouts, but took the loss.
 
Montana State-Billings 9, Coyotes 5
Down 9-1, CSUSB scored four runs in the eighth to close the gap. Gabe Chavez produced a run-scoring single to center, and Rodriguez followed with a three-run home run to left.
 
Rodriguez was 2 for 3 against the Yellowjackets. No other Coyote had more than one hit.
 
Starter Matthew Moriarty went five innings. He struck out four, walked two and gave up four hits, four runs (three earned).
