SAN FRANCISCO (February 17, 2018) – CSUSB bounced back from Friday's opening-series loss with three straight wins Saturday over San Francisco State in CCAA softball.
The Coyotes, now 8-5 overall and 3-5 CCAA, are at Cal State Dominguez Hills this coming weekend, beginning Friday afternoon in Carson.
Game 1: Coyotes 12, SF State 11
In a game that was delayed due to darkness Friday, CSUSB's
Jessica Brown ripped a solo home run in the 11
th and that paid off in the victory. Brown was 3-for-4, while
Ashley Leffingwell went 2-for-7 with four RBI. That included a three-run double in the fifth.
Taylor Ancona had four hits, while
Samantha Vacko,
Brooke Thomas and
Monica Maddox all had two hits.
On the mound,
Bailey Powell earned the win in five innings of relief.
Game 2: Coyotes 6, SF State 2
Morgan Ratliff's two-run double in the sixth — her second double of the game — helped the Coyotes to the win. Both
Briana Quintana and
Caitlyn Olan and Maddox had an RBI. Vacko had two hits as did Ancona.
Kenda O'Cull went the full seven innings and improved to 3-2 with a four-hitter.
Game 3 Coyotes 4, SF State 3
Dominique Walker's run-scoring double tied the game at 3-3 in the seventh, and three batters later, Vacko earned the game-winning RBI on a sac fly to center. Ancona had another two-hit game as did Quintana.
Amanda Ramirez improved to 4-2 with a six-hitter. She had one strikeout and one walk.
