Wildcats' arms stop Coyotes' bats

SAN BERNARDINO (February 10, 2018) – The Coyotes ran into dominating pitching this weekend against 21st-ranked Chico State, losing 9-1 in the opener against All-American Haley Gilham, and then in the series finale were dealt a no-hitter from Naomi Monahan, 8-0.

CSUSB, now 5-4 overall and 0-4 CCAA, head to San Francisco State this weekend for a four-game series that begins Friday afternoon.

Game 1: Chico State 9, Coyotes 1
Briana Quintana led the Coyotes with two hits, and Ashley Leffingwell and Monica Maddox each singled, but that was all the offense CSUSB mustered. The Coyotes faced a 5-0 deficit before they had a chance to hit. CSUSB got on the scoreboard when Morgan Ratliff raced home on a Chico State error. Cyrena Taylor had five RBI for the Wildcats. Claire Wayne and Megan Bowley each homered.

Game 2: Chico State 8, Coyotes 0
Monahan gave up just one walk and struck out five for her no-hitter. Karli Skowrup had three RBI and Ari Marsh and Bailey Akins each had two RBI.
