LA JOLLA, Calif. – The CSUSB Coyotes came racing out of the gates and led No. 10 UC San Diego on the road after the first quarter on Wednesday afternoon, but the Tritons bounced back winning 62-81.
Jasmine Sauser led the Yotes with 15 points going seven-of-11 from the field and grabbing five boards to go with three assists. Jazzmeen Williams pitched in 12 points and Daisia Williams scored nine. Kayla Bibb led the squad with nine boards. The Tritons shot 47.8 percent from the field while CSUSB shot 33.9 percent. UCSD made 10 threes compared to five for CSUSB to pull away.
The Coyotes led early 8-3 with Williams scoring a quick four points. That lead extended to 15-5 with two minutes left in the quarter on a three from Sauser. A 10-0 run from UCSD tied the game at 15 early in the second, but CSUSB held their lead to the latter part of the second quarter. UCSD finished the half on a 11-3 to lead 35-27 at the break. The lead grew to double digits early in the second half and got no closer than 17 in the fourth quarter.
The Coyote bench was strong scoring 26 points compared to 16 for UCSD. CSUSB (2-7, 1-4 CCAA) will return to action on December 30 at Stanislaus State at 4 pm. Live links are available on CSUSBathletics.com.
