ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The CSUSB Coyotes led at the half but could not recover from a rough third quarter as they fell at Sonoma State on Saturday afternoon, 62-71.
Arianna Knox led with 15 points and
Jasmine Sauser added 11.
Jamellia Clark and
Kayla Bibb each had nine, as Bibb dished nine assists and grabbed 11 boards to lead the Yotes. Both teams shot above 40 percent, but Sonoma State got to the line 11 more times and made 12 more foul shots.
The Coyotes fell down early in the first quarter by nine, but fought back and tied the game at 19 and led 21-20 on a jumper from
Tehya Burroughs after one. They extended that lead to eight on a layup from Sauser with three minutes left in the half. CSUSB led 40-34 at the break. The Coyotes expanded their lead as big as 11 in the third quarter but by the 3:24 SSU tied the game on a three. The Seawolves led 61-56 after three and CSUSB got within one in the fourth but could not overcome the edge.
The Seawolves scored 23 points off 21 CSUSB turnovers and CSUSB led in the paint, 28-24. The Coyotes (2-6, 1-3 CCAA) have one more game before the holiday break, playing at UC San Diego on Wednesday at 12:30 pm. Live links will be available on CSUSBathletics.com.
