POMONA, Calif. – The CSUSB Coyotes fell 68-53 in their season opener on Friday night against Azusa Pacific at Cal Poly Pomona.
Jasmine Sauser and Jamellia Clark led the Yotes in double figures with 11 points and 10 points, respectively. Kayla Bibb added eight and Tatianna Russell led the way with eight boards. The Cougars scored 20 points off 23 CSUSB turnovers.
The Coyotes only trailed 18-13 after one quarter and in the second quarter took the lead with five minutes remaining on a three from Tehya Burroughs, 24-22. After some back and forth action, they took a 30-29 lead into the half after Sauser converted a layup.
They hung tough through the third quarter but APU led 44-39 after three and pulled away midway through the fourth quarter.
