SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – Add a little perseverance to the resume of the 2018-19 Coyotes, as they saw a late lead disappear against Central Washington on Saturday night inside Coussoulis Arena, but took home the overtime win, 87-83.
Two late threes from CWU forced OT, but in overtime Daytone Jennings had two jumpers and a three to pace the Coyotes. He finished with 24 points and nine rebounds. Naradain James (15), Malik Rhodes (14), Dante Williams (11), and Garrett Baggett (10) all joined him in double figures. James pitched the double-double with 11 boards.
The first half was close until CSUSB built a four-point lead and Jennings hit a three at the halftime buzzer to see CSUSB lead 43-37 at the half. The teams traded leads throughout the second half but CSUSB led by four with 1:30 left. Two CWU threes got the game to overtime where Jennings and the Coyotes took the win.
The Coyotes shot 44.3 percent and made eight threes, and dominated on the glass, 54-41.
"Some people thought we might lose momentum heading into overtime, but coach talked us through it and we fought hard for that win," Jennings said.
The Coyotes (2-0) will have 10 days to prepare for their CCAA opener at UC San Diego on November 20 at 7 pm. Live links will be available on csusbathletics.com.
