SAN BERNARDINO (January 20, 2018) – CSUSB broke out Saturday night with an season-best offensive outburst in its 89-71 victory over visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills before a season-best Coussoulis Arena crowd of 651.
From beginning to end
CSUSB, which shot a lights-out 55.9 percent field-goal percentage in the first half, grabbed the lead from the get-go and never let up against the Toros in snapping a three-game losing streak. The Coyotes led 45-30 at the break, tying their biggest halftime lead of the season, and led by double-digits for all but 38 seconds of the second half.
Big Night from Sabrea
Senior
Sabrea Coleman led the Coyotes (7-11, 5-9 CCAA) with 21 points to lead five in double figures. She was 6 of 9 from the field and 9 of 10 free throws. She also helped out her teammates with a season-best eight assists.
Not to be outdone
Arianna Knox and
Jasmine Sauser each scored 17 points with
Ashley Carson and
Kaitlyn Parks each scoring 10. CSUSB finished 45.8 percent from the floor, and outscored CSUDH 34-12 in the paint and 20-7 on second-chance shots.
So close
The 89 points were the most scored in a regulation game for CSUSB since its 91-51 victory Occidental on Nov. 20, 2005. CSUSB defeated Northwest Nazarene 89-84 OT on Dec. 19, 2008.
For the Toros
CSUDH fell to 9-10, 7-7 and was led by Zhane Carter's game-high 23 points.
What's next
CSUSB returns to Northern California when it plays Cal State Monterey Bay (Friday) and Cal State East Bay (Saturday).
