CHICO (January 11, 2018) — An inspired late rally nearly put the Coyotes over the top, but Chico State withstood and dealt the Coyotes a 65-57 defeat Thursday night in CCAA play.
Rallying late
Trailing by 17 points with 8:03 remaining, CSUSB got its act together and made a run at the Wildcats that nearly put the Coyotes over the top. Senior
Blake McBride scored eight points and fellow senior
Jacardo Hawkins added six in a remarkable 16-1 run that included 13 straight points from the Coyotes. Hawkins' layup with 3:44 to go put the Coyotes within two of the lead (57-55), but Chico ended the night on an 8-2 run for the win.
Leading the way
Hawkins led the Coyotes (6-9 overall, 4-7 CCAA) with 14 points and 11 rebounds for his fourth double-double this season and first since Nov. 25. McBride had 11 with a team-high three 3-pointers. CSUSB finished 39.6 percent shooting.
Dorian Butler added nine.
For the Wildcats
Corey Silverstrom scored a game-high 23 points for Chico State, now 10-5, 7-4. Jalen McFerren had 13.

CSUSB returns to play Saturday night at Humboldt State.
