ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Sept. 8, 2017) — Lauren Nicholson threw down a match-high 20 kills, but No. 10 Western Washington got the upper hand against the 11
th-ranked Coyotes in a five-set match during the Division II West Region Showcase on Friday at the University of Alaska Anchorage.
CSUSB, now 3-3 overall, concludes tournament play Saturday when it faces No. 24 California Baptist, and the host and 14
th-ranked Seawolves. The CBU match begins at 2 p.m. Pacific and the UAA match at 8 p.m.

Hailey Jackson added 11 in the 19-25, 25-20, 25-20, 15-25, 12-15 defeat against the Vikings (4-2).
The serve-receive segment of play proved costly against CSUSB, which had six service errors and 12 receiving errors. The Coyotes hit a combined .111 over the final two sets (19 kills, 11 errors, 72 attacks).
"Another tough loss against a quality opponent,'' head coach
Kim Cherniss said. "The edge they had in experienced players on the floor was the difference. Lauren played a tremendous match, particularly on the defensive side. Leilia (To'omalatai) was incredibly steady in serve receive against some very tough serving.''
Defensively, the Coyotes produced 104 digs with To'omalatai leading with 27. Nicholson had 20 with
Diana Maile 16 and
Flavia Virgili 13.
Maile had 47 assists.
WWU was strong on the block with 32 block assists.
