BILLINGS, Mont. (Sept. 8, 2017) — Senior
Kieron Coleman provided a spark off the bench on a goal with four minutes remaining in the game in Friday's 2-1 loss to No. 3 Simon Fraser in a game played at Montana State Billings.
Coleman's goal was CSUSB's first tally of the season as it now prepares for Sunday's game against the host Yellowjackets. CSUSB dropped to 0-3.
Gotta attack
CSUSB fell behind 2-0 in the first half with goals in the 8
th and 38
th minute by the Clan's Pascal Schmidt and Rahid Rahiem. The Coytoes did not have a shot in the opening 45 minutes. They fired off four — one each by
Hieu Ngo,
Sergio Espindola, and
Kevin Aguilar before Coleman's strike.
Nicely done Kevin
Freshman
Kevin Aguilar earned the assist on Coleman's goal. The freshman from Montclair delivered a cross and Coleman came through on a sliding goal from six yards out. It was Coleman's second career goal.
All-time series
SFU and CSUSB met for the third time on the pitch with the Clan improving to 3-0. This year marks the second year in a four-year contract that the teams will play each other (MSU Billings and Cal Poly Pomona also participate). The series returns to Southern California next year before games played in suburban Vancouver in 2019.
Coach Says
"The biggest thing we took from this is that we found an identity,'' head coach
Darren Leslie said. "We have to have a tough-minded, blue-collar approach on the field. Simon Fraser is a tough team to break down. We got back to hard work; did not necessarily have a lot of SOG. We set up nicely on the offensive end, but just couldn't finish play. We'll use all 20 on the roster this weekend. Everybody will get minutes this weekend. "
Three-dot data …
The teams combined for 27 fouls (CSUSB 17, SFU 10) … Simon Fraser had four corners to CSUSB's two.
