SAN BERNARDINO (Sept. 22, 2017) — Senior power showed Friday afternoon with
Rachael Figg and
Nicki Argentieri scoring first-half goals in the Coyotes' 2-0 win over visiting Cal State Monterey Bay in CCAA soccer at Premier Field.
Leading scorer
Figg put the Coyotes on the scoreboard with a nifty shot and an even better pass from teammate
Bianca Scodellaro in the 17
th minute. Scodellaro sent in a long cross from the right side and Figg worked her way through the defender on the one-timer. It was Figg's fourth goal of the season, tops on the squad.
And right behind …
Argentieri planted inside and tight and controlled the ball on a cross from
Alyssa Campa. It was Argentieri's first goal of the season.
Nice job on the shutout
Junior
Destiny Collins had two saves — one in each period — for the shutout. It was her third on the year.
Making the most of their shots
CSUSB totaled only seven shots on the day, including three from
Sarah Bradley. Five were SOG.
Owning the Otters
CSUSB is now 12-1-1 all-time against CSUMB.
The records and what's next
CSUSB is now 4-3-1 overall and 2-1 in the CCAA. The Coyotes return to Premier Field on Sunday against Cal State East Bay with an 11:30 a.m. kickoff.
Coach Says
Today's game was great to see the positive evolution of the team,'' head coach
LeBaron Hollimon said. "Our first-half performance was one of the halves of soccer we've ever played. We weren't quite as efficient in the second half, but we never stopped doing the necessary defensive work in the final 45 minutes and that's pleasing. We need to start establishing some consistency in our play and today could be a great start.''
