Bermudez fires in OT winner

SAN BERNARDINO (Sept. 24, 2017) — Cassandra Bermudez worked into position for the game-winning shot Sunday in CSUSB's 2-1 overtime victory over Cal State East Bay in CCAA soccer at Premier Field.

How it went down

Bermudez found herself inside the box and controlled the ball while a multiude of Coyotes and Pioneers were jostling for the ball. Bermudez was the one who came through and scored her first goal of the year in the 99th minute.

What it means

CSUSB won its third straight game and improved to 5-3-1 overall and 3-1 in the CCAA. CSUEB dropped to 3-6, 1-3.

The Figg Five
Senior Rachael Figg connected on her team-leading fifth goal of the season that gave the Coyotes a 1-0 lead early in the second half. Thanks to a feed from Bermudez, Figg fired a shot that was blocked. She regained control of the ball, turned, spun and fired it for the lead in the 56th minute.

Way to go Destiny
GK Destiny Collins also improved her record on the year to 5-3-1 with five saves with four in the second half.

We play all day
Congrats to those who played the entire 98-minute game — Collins, Bianca Scodellaro, Figg, Alyssa Campa, and Arielle Stoyanow.

What's next
CSUSB is on the road next week with games at Cal State San Marco (Friday) and UC San Diego (Sunday).

Coach Says
"Another solid performance that we are proud to have earned,'' head coach LeBaron Hollimon said. "East Bay forced us to adjust and adapt all game long. Gotta keep the focus on playing better, however, we're proud of the two wins this weekend."
