Lo and company rout CSUMB

SAN BERNARDINO (Sept. 22, 2017) — CSUSB snapped its two-game losing streak with an impressive 3-0 victory over visiting Cal State Monterey Bay in CCAA men's soccer Friday afternoon at Premier Field.

Nothing Lo about Tony
Senior Tony Lo performed at a big-time level, scoring his first two goals of the season as CSUSB led throughout. After a blocked shot, Lo was in the right place at the right time and one-timed his delivery in the 40th minute for a 1-0 lead. Then in the 50th minute, a cross from Andres Aguirre was delivered from right to left and Lo fired a perfectly timed shot from 20 yards out for the 2-0 lead.

Excellent efficiency
Lo's goals were his only shots of the day in 68 minutes of play.

And that's not all …
Kevin Aguilar made it 3-0 in the 79th minute on an unassisted goal. He followed up a deflection and forced out Otters' GK Jesus Ochoa with a free-look tally. It was Aguilar's second goal of the season.

Climbing Jacob's ladder
Sophomore Jacob Huber had just one save on a definitive day from his defense for the shutout.

Working it out
CSUSB had 14 shots on the day with Francisco Sierra leading with three. Humberto Salcedo, Kieron Coleman, Aguilar and Lo each had two.

What's next
CSUSB takes its 3-5 overall record and 1-2 CCAA slate into Sunday's game against Cal State East Bay. Kickoff is 2 p.m.

Coach says
"We have played considerably better this season and lost, so it feels good to get a convincing 3-0 victory after not being at our best today,'' head coach Darren Leslie said. "Can't fault the guys' work rate. They rolled their sleeves up and did the dirty work when it wasn't quite going to plan. They got their reward out of it in the end. I thought Tony Lo was fantastic today. It's easy to look at his two goals and say he played well, but it was his work without the ball that really was impressive. We'll have another difficult test Sunday and we got to perform better to ensure we challenge for the win.''
