SAN BERNARDINO (April 7, 2017) — CSUSB stretched its season-best winning streak to seven games after powering past Cal State Dominguez Hills, 11-1 and 8-0 in five-inning shortened games in CCAA softball Friday afternoon at Coyote Park.
The Coyotes, now 25-15 overall and 15-11 CCAA, and Toros (6-35, 4-26) resume their weekend series, beginning at 12 p.m. Saturday.
Game 1: Coyotes 11, Toros 1
After CSUDH opened the game with a solo home run by Lyzette Reveles off
Cassandra Williams, the Coyotes left-hander settled down and offered just three more Toros' hits and struck out six with one walk.
She improved her record to 14-9.
Offensively,
Taylor Ancona homered twice, and
Kaylee Gemmell added a solo home run in the 10-run rout.
Ancona finished with three RBI, Gemmell had one more hit and
Amanda Herrera had two hits with two RBI.
Morgan Ratliff and
Jessica Brown each doubled.
Game 2: Coyotes 8, Toros 0
Sophomore RHP
Amanda Ramirez was equally adept, limiting CSUDH to just three hits and did not issue a walk as she improved to 11-6.
CSUSB scored five runs in the first inning, added two in the second and one in the third for its eight runs.
Gemmell drove in three runs, thanks to a pair of sacrifice flys and a run-scoring triple in the first.
Both Ratliff and
Briana Quintana had doubles.
Caelan Smith and Ancona each had two hits.
