SAN BERNARDINO (April 22, 2017) — CSUSB continued its red-hot play by winning for the 16
th time in its last 17 games in Saturday's doubleheader sweep against San Francisco State, winning 5-4 and 8-2 on Senior Day at Coyote Park.
The Coyotes, who are now 34-16 overall and 24-12 in the CCAA, complete the regular season this week at Cal State East Bay. CSUSB sits one game ahead of Chico State for fourth place. The top four teams advance to the CCAA Championship, set for May 5-6 in Stockton.
Game 1: Coyotes 5, SF State 4
CSUSB earned its second walk-off victory in as many games when
Monica Maddox scored on a wild pitch.
CSUSB 3-2 through two innings before getting back on track. Maddox hit a run-scoring single to center that scored
Ashley Leffingwell.
Then in the fifth,
Morgan Ratliff laced a home run over the left-center field wall and the Coyotes had their first lead of the game, 4-3.
The Gators answered with one of their own in the sixth, but that set the tone for the decisive seventh.
Maddox reached on a walk, then moved to second on a sac bunt from
Kaylee Gemmell. Ratliff then singled to short, and Maddox anticipated the throw and safely advance to third.
Cassandra Williams earned her second straight 20-win season, going the distance. She struck out three, walked one and allowed nine hits. She is now 20-9.
Ratliff went 3-for-4 with a double, and
Briana Quintana had two hits.
Caelan Smith had a double.
Game 2: Coyotes 8, SF State 2
Jessica Brown laced a grand slam that towered over the left-field wall in the fourth, pushing CSUSB's lead to 6-0.
Ratliff added her second home run of the day, this time in the sixth over the right-field wall that scored
Amanda Fitzgerald.
Sophomore RHP
Amanda Ramirez gutted out a victory and improved to 14-7. She gave up 12 hits, but just two runs. She struck out four and walked one.
Both Ratliff and Brown had two hits.
Earlier, the Coyotes saluted their three seniors — Angula, Smith and Williams in a pregame ceremony.
