CHICO (April 22, 2017) — No. 4 Chico State turned back the Coyotes in the teams' CCAA doubleheader, handing CSUSB a 7-4 loss in the opener and a 6-2 defeat in the second.
CSUSB, which has lost its last eight CCAA games, completes the weekend at 11 a.m. Sunday in a 9-inning game.
Game 1: Chico State 7, Coyotes 4
CSUSB, which trailed 6-0 through five innings, climbed back with a three-run, five-hit sixth. The Coyotes strung together five straight singles from
Dillon Fahr,
Jordan Simon,
Dominic Campeau,
Lucas Martinez and
Austin Lundeen, with RBI from Campeau and Martinez, while
Kristian DeLaTorre earned an RBI when he was walked with the bases loaded.
All 10 of CSUSB's hits were singles, with Fahr, Campeau, Martinez and
Eli Zaragoza all collecting two hits.
Sabino Ramirez earned the start for CSUSB. He went five innings and allowed six runs (four earned) and gave up seven hits.
Game 2: Chico State 6, Coyotes 2
The Wildcats led 4-0 through five, until CSUSB got back into the game in the eighth.
Campeau led off the inning with a single to short, and two outs later, scored on a single to center from
Daniel Romo.
Zaragoza followed with a single through the right side that drove in Romo.
Zaragoza went 3-for-4 and Romo had two hits including a double in the fifth.
Jon Ferrendelli struck out five in seven innings, but took the loss. He gave up 12 hits and five runs (four earned).
