TURLOCK (April 14, 2017) — CSUSB improved its season-best winning streak to 10 before having it in end in the Coyotes' CCAA doubleheader against Stanislaus State on Friday.
The Coyotes took the opener 3-1 before losing 6-3 against the Warriors. CSUSB, now 28-16 overall and 18-12 CCAA, and the Warriors (20-25, 10-20) complete their series Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m.
Game 1: Coyotes 3, Warriors 1
Morgan Ratliff ripped a two-run home run in the third inning, and
Amanda Herrera drove in a run in the sixth for the win.
Down 1-0, CSUSB got going on a
Monica Maddox leadoff single in the second.
Jessica Angulo reached on a fielder's choice, and Ratliff connected on her homer.
Then in the sixth,
Brooke Thomas led off with a single to left center, and scored when Herrera singled to right.
Both Herrera and Thomas had two hits.
On the mound,
Amanda Ramirez got the win in four innings with one strikeout. Senior LHP
Cassandra Williams got the save with three-hit shuout relief with four strikeouts.
Game 2: Warriors 6, Coyotes 3
Stanislaus State scored six unanswered runs for the win. The Warriors, who trailed 3-2 entering the fifth, scored four runs in the inning with Deja Guzman delivering a three-run double off Ramirez.
Kaylee Gemmell,
Jessica Brown, Herrera and Angulo all had two hits.
