TURLOCK (March 31, 2017) -- Senior LHP
Cassandra Williams retired the first 19 batters from Montana State-Billings and finished with a one-hit 1-0 victory after the first day of play at the Tournament of Champions, hosted by Stanislaus State on Friday.
Williams struck out 11 through six innings and improved to 11-9 on the season as CSUSB increased its overall record to 19-15.
The Apple Valley native entered the seventh inning in full control. She induced a flyball out to begin the inning, and the Yellowjackets' Heather Tracy broke up the perfect game with a single to left. She advanced to second on an error.
Williams then earned a pair of flyouts and earned the win over the 12-21 Yellowjackets.
The Coyotes got their one and only run in the second, thanks to a bases-loaded walk to
Morgan Ratliff that scored
Amanda Herrera, who led off the inning with a single.
Jessica Brown,
Brooke Thomas and
Monica Maddox accounted for the other three singles for CSUSB.
Earlier, the Coyotes lost 7-0 to Central Washington.
Kaylee Gemmell had two singles for CSUSB against the Wildcats.
