SAN BERNARDINO (March 25, 2017) — Lucas Martinez wore the hero's cape Saturday afternoon when he launched a one-out, walk-off home run that gave CSUSB a come-from-behind 4-3 win in 10 innings over Cal State Monterey Bay.
The Coyotes, who lost the opener 11-7, and Otters complete their weekend series Sunday morning, beginning at 11 a.m.
Game 1: Otters 11, Coyotes 7
CSUMB hit four home runs including two from Myles Hager as it built an 11-1 lead.
The Coyotes answered back with four runs in the eighth and two in the ninth, but the early deficit was too much.
Dillon Fahr went 3 for 5 with three RBI, while
Austin Lundeen and
Tyler Van Marter also had three hits. Van Marter clubbed a home run.
CSUMB also got home runs by Hayden Duer and Jacob Tonascia.
Game 2: Coyotes 4, Otters 3 10 innings
Down 3-0, CSUSB got back into the game with a three-run seventh.
Damion Edmonds came through with a sacrifice fly that scored Van Marter (single).
Andrew Jurado followed with run-scoring double down the right-field line that scored
Kristian DeLaTorre (double). Fahr finished off the scoring on a single to short that scored Jurado.
In the 10
th, Martinez – who earlier extended his consecutive reached-base streak with a walk in the eighth, delivered a 2-1 offering from Otters' Drew Kozain deep over the left-field wall.
It was Martinez's third home run on the season.
Coyotes starter
Jon Ferrendelli struck out seven in six innings.
Brian Conley (1-1) earned the victory with three innings of shut-out ball. He gave up two hits with two strikeouts.
Fahr was the only Coyotes with two hits.
