Austin Lundeen highlighted the Coyotes' day in their 10-1 loss to No. 16 Dixie State in nonconference baseball Sunday afternoon at Fiscalini Field.
The Coyotes were swept in their season-opening weekend and look forward to this week's four-game series against Azusa Pacific, beginning Thursday afternoon
The second inning looked pretty ominous. Dixie State led 2-0, and had runners at first and second with no outs. Jake Davison sent a hard liner to the left of DeLaTorre. The shortstop made an outstanding catch, and then stepped on second to double-up Trey Kamachi, and then easily threw to first baseman
Daniel Romo to get Cam Gust, who left early, for the first triple play in recent memory.
The Trailblazers scored five runs — all unearned — and sent 12 batters to the plate and led 7-0. Poor fielding cost the Coyotes, who committed three errors in the inning and finished the game with five
Lundeen led off the fifth with his solo shot, a towering blast to right.
Esteban Lizaola earned the start and threw 3 1/3 innings. He allowed seven runs, but just two were earned.
DeLaTorre had two hits, including a double in the second. Romo also had two hits.
