Coyotes hold off Otters, 64-60

SAN BERNARDINO (Feb. 4, 2017) — An 11-point lead in the final four minutes vanished and head coach Jeff Oliver was beside himself.

The Coyotes, however, found a way to pull off a 64-60 win over visiting Cal State Monterey Bay in CCAA basketball Saturday night. Everett Turner scored 17 points, and Dorian Butler (11) and Eli Brown (10) came up big in the victory.

CSUSB won for the fifth time in its last six games and stand 11-8 overall and 7-7 in the CCAA with six regular-season games remaining.

Blake McBride ripped a 3-pointer that put CSUSB ahead 56-45 with 4:07 remaining against the Otters, who entered play in last place in the CCAA at 3-17, 1-13.

But in a three-plus minute stretch the Otters played inspired and nearly pulled off a stunning upset. They outscored the Coyotes 14-3 and tied the game at 60-60 on a layup from Kevin Warren with 21 seconds left.

Brown went to the line and hit the front end of a two-shot foul for a one-point lead. After a missed jump shot by CSUMB's Gregg Polosky with four seconds, Khleem Perkins then went back to the line.

He hit the second of a two-shot foul and CSUSB led 62-60 with two seconds left and Brown hit two more to support the final margin.

The Coyotes improved to 13-0 all-time at home against the Otters.

Jonquis Bouyea led the Otters with 18.
