Perkins paces Coyotes against Pioneers

SAN BERNARDINO (Feb. 3, 2017) — Khleem Perkins scored a season-high 30 points and the Coyotes shot for a high field goal percentage in an 82-74 win over Cal State East Bay on Friday night at Coussoulis Arena.

The Coyotes (10-8, 6-7 CCAA) close the weekend Saturday night against Cal State Monterey Bay.

Perkins shot 12 of 17 from the floor, and the Coyotes shot 53.6 percent from the field. That number is even more impressive because CSUSB was just 3 of 15 from 3-point land. The Coyotes outscored the Pioneers 52-34 in the paint.

Dorian Butler and Ramon Eaton each scored 13, and Eli Brown added nine for the Coyotes.

CSUSB outscored the Pioneers 52-45 in the second half on the strength of 72-percent shooting (18 of 25).

However, the game hung in the balance and tied at 71-71 with 2:19 left.

Eaton scored on a follow after a tough layup attempt from Perkins. The next time CSUSB had possession, Perkins drilled a jumper and CSUSB led 75-71 with 1:45 to go.

After CSUEB's Micah Dunhour hit two free throws, Brown took the ball and drove inside with a nifty back spin in the paint for a layup and the Coyotes were never threatened again, 77-73 with 50 seconds left..

Dunhour led the Pioneers, now 12-10, 5-9, with 16 points.
