SAN BERNARDINO (Feb. 17, 2017) – Dorian Butler scored 16 points, and three others reached double figures in the Coyotes' 88-81 loss to visiting Humboldt State on Friday night at Coussoulis Arena.
CSUSB (11-11, 7-10 CCAA) finds itself in a three-way tie for seventh place in the CCAA chase with three games remaining in the regular season. The Coyotes share the seventh spot with Humboldt State (13-12, 7-10) and Saturday night's opponent, Cal Poly Pomona (9-12, 7-10).
CSUSB did not manage any sizeable runs against the Lumberjacks, despite being a two-possession game for the first 30 minutes. Neither team held more than a five-point lead until HSU got 3-pointers from Tyler Green and Nikhil Lizotte that put it ahead 60-53 with 9:52 left.
The Coyotes got to within two points, but HSU answered back and led 76-65 with 2:38 left.
Butler was 5 of 11 from the field and scored five free throws.
Eli Brown and
Blake McBride each had 12 and
Khleem Perkins 11 for CSUSB.
Lizotte scored a game-high 26 points and Tyras Rattler Jr. had 18 for HSU.
