SAN BERNARDINO (November 18, 2017) — Jacardo Hawkins and
T.A. Dixon each had double-doubles as CSUSB made its season home debut a success with a 77-70 victory over Vanguard at Coussoulis Arena on Friday night.
Hawk Flies
Hawkins led with a game-high 23 points with 10 rebounds, four steals and two blocks in 28 minutes. Dixon played a solid all-round game with 14 points, 12 rebounds, four blocks, six assists and one steal in 22 minutes off the bench.
Advantage CSUSB
The Coyotes took control of the first half, closing on a 20-4 run over the final 5 minutes, 36 seconds of the half for a 42-25 halftime advantage. CSUSB scored four three-pointers in that stretch with
Justin Frazier hitting two.
And in the second half
Vanguard fought back after trailing by 19 early in the second half. The Lions forced 24 Coyotes' turnovers for the game and cut CSUSB's lead to one on two occasions, both inside the final five minutes of play. The Coyotes used a 7-0 spurt, capped by
Ajon Efferson's three with 1:07 left, that put CSUSB up 72-63 with 1:07 left.
The win
CSUSB finished 50 percent from the floor on 28 of 56 shooting. Joining Hawkins and Dixon in double figures were Frazier (11 points) and
Elijah Brown (10). CSUSB totaled 22 assists and had 11 steals.

CSUSB is off until Saturday night when it faces Humboldt State. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m.
