SAN BERNARDINO (Jan. 6, 2017) — The Coyotes dominated on the boards in their CCAA game against Chico State on Friday night and the end result snapped their three-game losing streak.
Courtney Coleman scored a game-high 15 points and
Ashley Carson added 12 as CSUSB earned a 63-58 win over the Wildcats at Coussoulis Arena. The Coyotes, now 6-4, 3-3 CCAA, outrebounded their foe 58-33 with 28 on the offensive.
That dominance on the offensive glass paid off with an outstanding 26-6 advantage in second-chance shots. CSUSB led for the entire game and by as many as 15 points.
Coleman hit back-to-back 3 pointers in less than a minute after entering the game and CSUSB led 18-5 with 2:10 left in the first quarter. The Coyotes built a 23-12 lead through the first minutes of play, then padded the lead to their largest lead of the game on
Leelee Owens' 3 that put CSUSB ahead 33-18 with 4:25 remaining in the second quarter.
However, the Wildcats climbed back in the game and drew within a basket on McKena Barker's layup and CSUSB ahead 59-57 with 41 seconds left.
Her teammate Kayla Taylor cut the lead to one on a free throw with 14 seconds left. But her second shot was off.
Carson then hit four free throws over inside the final nine seconds for the win.
CSUSB had 27 more field goal attempts than Chico State and finished just 29 percent from the floor on 23 of 79 shooting.

Mya Johnson just missed out on a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.
Taylor Goldsberry also reached double digits in boards with 10.
Madison Wong and Natalie Valenzuela each scored 10 points for the Wildcats (8-5, 3-4).
CSUSB next plays at Sonoma State and San Francisco State next week.
