SAN BERNARDINO (Jan. 18, 2017) — CSUSB took control right from the opening tipoff and cruised to its widest margin of victory in five seasons in its 72-38 victory over San Francisco State in CCAA basketball Wednesday night.
Sabrea Coleman led the way with a game-high 20 points, and
Casie Johnson (15) and
Mya Johnson (12) helped out as CSUSB stretched its winning streak to four games and improved to 9-4 overall and 6-3 CCAA.
The 34-point margin of victory is CSUSB's best since Feb. 10, 2012, when it defeated Stanislaus State 75-42.
But what should make coach
Susan Crebbin even happier is the play of her defense. The 38- points allowed is the best defensive effort since the 2010-11 season.
CSUSB led from the beginning, thanks to a 7-0 spurt. The Coyotes extended the lead to 21-6 through the first period, and led 30-14 at halftime.
For good measure CSUSB outscored the Gators 29-9 in the third and led by 39 with 6:38 remaining in the game.
Coleman was 8-of-17 shooting with a season-best seven steals.
Casie Johnson was 6 of 10 with six rebounds, and
Mya Johnson earned her seventh double-double in CSUSB's 13 games with a game-high 12 rebounds.
Freshman
Taylor Goldsberry scored a season-best eight points with seven rebounds, and
Courtney Coleman added seven with two 3-pointers.
SFSU (2-15, 0-10) was led by Kaitlin DaDalt with 13.
CSUSB returns to Coussoulis Arena on Saturday night when it plays host to Cal State San Marcos.
