SAN FRANCISCO (Jan. 14, 2017) — Senior
Everett Turner scored 14 points with 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season and two others scored in double figures in the Coyotes' 72-60 loss to No. 16 San Francisco State in CCAA basketball Saturday night.
Ramon Eaton had 12 points with eight rebounds, and
Eli Brown 11 points off the bench for CSUSB, now 6-7 overall and 2-6 CCAA.
The Gators (14-2, 7-2), who led 31-29 at halftime, raced to a 19-8 run in the first eight-plus minutes of the second half for complete control. SFSU led by as many as 17 and held a double-digit lead in the final 8 minutes and 42 seconds.
Poor shooting doomed the Coyotes' chances. They were just 21 of 59 (35.6 percent) on field goals and only 5 of 25 on 3-pointers.
CSUSB owned a 7-0 run over the final 1:25 of the first half, thanks to
Brian Gugliotta's 3-pointer just in front of the buzzer that pulled the Coyotes to within a field goal, 31-29.
The two teams meet again Wednesday night at Coussoulis Arena.
