SAN BERNARDINO (Sept. 28, 2016) — One had a feeling midway through Wednesday's afternoon game that CSUSB was living right against its opponent, Cal Poly Pomona.
The Broncos controlled the ball on their half of the field for nearly all of the first 19 minutes of play. And the very first time that CSUSB had an offensive threat, it paid off in a goal.
CSUSB took care of business with an impressive 2-0 win over the Broncos in CCAA play at Coyote Premier Field. Goals from
Susan Ibarra and
Cassandra Bermudez helped their team improve to 3-5-1 overall, 2-2-1 in the CCAA and 2-0-1 in their last three games.
On the first pivotal possession for CSUSB,
Megan Todd controlled the ball on the far right side of the field. She lifted a pass inside that Ibarra controlled. The Sylmar senior one-timed a shot that bounced off the Broncos GK.
But the ball caromed right back to Ibarra, who made no doubt about the tally with a hard shot to the left side of the net.
The game remained 1-0 until the 61
st minute when
Rachael Figg earned an assist when Bermudez controlled a loose ball from 10 yards out with a nifty shot in the net.
CSUSB was out-shot 10-5, with three shots on goal.
Megan Vina improved her record in the nets to 3-2-1 with her second shutout in three games.
CPP dropped to 3-3-2, 2-2-1.
CSUSB takes to the road Friday when it faces Chico State.
