SAN BERNARDINO (Sept. 25, 2016) — CSUSB took on two opponents Sunday in its game against San Francisco State at Premier Field. The other foe was a mighty wind that never stopped penetrating the field, but the Coyotes were undeterred and secured a victory.
Thanks to a penalty kick from senior
Diego Casillas in the 6
th minute of play, the Coyotes held off the Gators and won 1-0. They also extended their unbeaten streak to six games, CSUSB's best in two seasons.
In the early going, CSUSB set up on its side of the field, and when a SFSU player was called for a handball, Casilllas earned honors at a PK attempt. He drove it deftly to the left of SFSU's Emmanuel Jimenez for the game's only scoring.
The Coyotes played nearly the entire second half on the SFSU side. Senior
Luca Falcone was the only player for CSUSB to fire off a shot in the final 45 minutes.
SFSU attempted six of its nine total shots in the latter half, but Coyotes GK
Jacob Huber and his teammates kept the Gators off the scoreboard.
Casillas and
Jorge Avila were the only Coyotes who had shots on goal.
CSUSB, now 5-1-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the CCAA, remains at home Wednesday when it takes on Cal Poly Pomona. Kickoff is 3 p.m.
SFSU dropped to 5-3, 2-2.
