POMONA (April 30, 2016) -- CSUSB completed its four-game series against nationally ranked Cal Poly Pomoma on Saturday, swept by the Broncos 6-0 and 7-1 at Scolinos Field.
The Coyotes, 20-25 overall and 15-18 in the CCAA, remain in third place in the CCAA South and now prepare for their regular-season finale against Cal State L.A., beginning Thursday in L.A.
Game 1 -- Cal Poly Pomona 6, Coyotes 0: CSUSB was held hitless into the fifth inning and had just one hit through eight against CPP's Max Bethel.
Ryan Cooper broke up Bethel's perfect game on an error to lead off the fifth. Three batters later, David Romo singled up the middle.
Romo finished with two hits, and
Dylan Lohman accounted for the other.
Game 2 -- Cal Poly Pomona 7, Coyotes 1: CSUSB grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the first, before CPP scored seven unanswered for the victory.
William Ouellette led off the game with a walk, moved to second on a sac bunt from
Jordan Simon, and reached third on a ground-out by
Brian Lockey.
Cooper then came through with an RBi-single to short.
CSUSB mounted a potential rally in the fourth when it had the bases loaded with no outs. But a pair of strikeouts and a ground out ended the threat.
Ouellette finished 2-for-2, while
Austin Lundeen doubled in the seventh.
