Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SAN BERNARDINO (March 11, 2016) — The Coyotes had their seven-game winning streak snapped by visiting Chico State, losing 16-7 in five innings and 2-0 in the final in CCAA softball Friday afternoon at Coyote Park.

CSUSB (17-10, 12-6 CCAA) and Chico State (14-6, 11-5) resume their weekend series Saturday morning at 11 a.m.

Game 1: Chico State 16, Coyotes 7 5 innings
Amanda Herrera pounded a three-run home run in the first inning for the Coyotes, but the Wildcats responded well, scoring six runs in the second, then putting the game away with an eight-run fourth.

After Chico State scored six runs in the second for a 6-3 lead, CSUSB came right back to take the lead with a four-run second.  Kaylee Gemmell led off with a triple, and scored on Caitlyn Olan's sacrifice fly to right. Three batters later, Morgan Ratliff, this week's CCAA Player of the Week, lifted a double to left that scored Jessica Angulo and Melissa Roberts and the game was tied at 6-6. Taylor Ancona then doubled to center to score Ratliff and CSUSB led 7-6.

But Chico State tied the game in the third, then scored nine more runs and CSUSB could not cut the deficit forcing the game in five innings.

Monica Maddox and Gemmell each had two hits. Gemmell added a double in the fifth.

Amanda Ramirez (2-3) took the loss in 1 1/3 innings of relief. Starter Cassandra Williams was lifted in the second after giving up five hits, six runs (all earned) and one strikeout with two walks.

Chico State's Ari Marsh and Alli Cook each had three hits. Marsh had three RBI.

Game 2: Chico State 2, Coyotes 0
Cyrena Tayor came through with the game's only runs when she popped a two-run shot over the right-center wall and that was enough to spoil Williams' effort.

The Apple Valley native struck out six, walked four and allowed only three hits. Her counterpart, Haley Gilham, was a little bit better with six strikeouts in her four-hit shutout.

Ancona had two hits and Williams and Jessica Brown accounted for the others.

Earning the other hits for the Wildcats were Brynn Leshovsky and Cailin Garmon.
