SAN BERNARDINO (Feb. 6, 2016) -- No. 13 UC San Diego utilized a late rally against the host Coyotes and earned a 71-66 victory Saturday night at Coussoulis Arena.
Anthony January led the Coyotes, now 7-12 overall and 4-11 CCAA, with 16 points and
Desi Barmore followed with 15.
Juan Martinez added 11 and
Everett Turner 10.
The Tritons scored 12 3-pointers and used the long-range shot to gain the advantage after CSUSB fought back for the lead with 9:37 remaining.
Zeke DeBlase opened a 7-0 run with a 3-pointer, and after steals by Turner and Martinez that resulted in baskets by January and Turner, the Coyotes seemed to be in control at 61-54.
But UCSD hit three straight 3-pointers in a key two-minute stretch by Koree Cox, Drew Dyer and Aleks Lipovic and that momentum carried the Tritons to the victory.
After UCSD gained the lead,
Keith Smith hit the front end of a two-shot foul to pull the Coyotes to 65-64 with 5:13 left, Dyer answered with another three and the Tritons remained out front.
CSUSB totaled 10 steals (three from Turner) and six blocks (three from Barmore), but UCSD hit 50 percent from the field (51.9) and out-rebounded the Coyotes 32-30.
Adam Klie led UCSD (18-3, 13-2) with 15 points.
The Coyotes remain at Coussoulis Arena this week when they take on Stanislaus State on Friday and Chico State on Saturday.
