Tyler Wells threw five innings and left with a 3-1 lead, but host UCSD rallied back with a three-run seventh and five-run eighth for a 9-4 victory in CCAA baseball Friday night.
The Coyotes (7-9, 2-2 CCAA) and Tritons (11-2, 1-0) continue their four-game series with a doubleheader Saturday at Fiscalini Field. First pitch is 11 a.m.
Wells gave up three hits with eight strikeouts and three walks and left with 104-pitch count.
Brian Lockey gave the Coyotes a 2-0 lead in the first on his two-run single to left center and CSUSB gained a 3-0 advantage in the second, thaks to
Andrew Lopez's one-out double to left center that scored
Dylan Lohman (single).
UCSD cut the lead to 3-1 in the third, but CSUSB answered back with a run in the sixth when
Jake Caron scored an unearned run.
The Tritons scored three in the seventh and batted around for five more in the eighth.
Cory Peterson took the loss. He faced one batter in the eighth.
