Box Score 2 LANCASTER (Feb. 19, 2016) -- CSUSB extended its recent success, earning a split Friday afternoon in an 8-2 loss to British Columbia and a 3-2 win over Cal State L.A.
CSUSB (7-8) has won five of its last seven games and returns to CCAA play Friday, after playing an exhibition game Tuesday night against a touring team from South Korea at Fiscalini Field. First pitch is 6 p.m.
British Columbia 8, Coyotes 2Jake Caron went 2-for-3 and drove in both runs, but UBC scored six runs in the fourth innings, and then added two in the eighth for the victor.
Grant Buchanan and
Dylan Lohman joined Caron with two hits.
Austin Casillas (0-3) took the loss in 3 2/3 innings. He gave up eight hits, six runs (five earned) with three strikeouts.
Jordan Kelly had three k's in 2 1/3 innings.
Coyotes 3, Cal State L.A. 2Buchanan and Lohman repeated their first-game success with two hits apiece and the Coyotes earned the win with a two-run fourth and solid pitching from
Don Sullivan.
Brian Lockey gave the Coyotes a 1-0 lead in the first when his infield groundout to short scored Buchanan, who opened the game with a single to left.
In the fifth,
Andrew Lopez hit a two-out single that drove in
William Ouellette (single). Lohman later scored on a first-and-third play.
The Coyotes threatened in the eighth with three straight singles with one out, but could not cash in.
Sullivan struck out six in 6 2/3 innings and walked just one. He gave up six hits and all three runs allowed were earned. Ouellette earned his fourth save of the season with three strikeouts in the ninth.
Joshua Murtha struck out two in one inning of relief.
