Box Score 2 LA JOLLA (Feb. 13, 2016) -- Grant Buchanan scored three runs and led CSUSB with four singles in CSUSB's 8-2 win over No. 26 UC San Diego in the opener of Saturday's nonconference doubleheader.
The Tritons came back to win the second game, 9-1.
CSUSB, which snapped its five-game losing streak, takes a 3-7 record into Sunday's game against Texas-Permian Basin in a game played at UCSD.
Game 1: Coyotes 8, UC San Diego 2RHP
Don Sullivan (2-1) was effective in his six innings, scattering eight hits and allowing just two runs (one earned). He did not allow a walk and struck out three. Reliever
Brian Conley earned his first save, going three innings without a run and two strikeouts.
Buchanan led the offense, which totaled 14 hits. CSUSB took the lead for good in the fifth when
Austin Lundeen singled through the left side, scoring Buchanan (single) with CSUSB up 3-2.
The Coyotes added a run in the sixth, and
William Ouellette gave his team a 5-2 lead on a ground out that scored Buchanan.
In the eighth, the Coyotes scored three unearned runs on two hits.
Andrew Lopez had three hits and Romo and
Damion Edmonds each had two hits.
Game 2: UC San Diego 9, Coyotes 1Brian Lockey had an RBI single in the first inning, but CSUSB was retired in order from the second inning on and had just the one hit in a seven-inning game.
Kyle Lucke had five strikeouts, and reliever Travis Roberts had three in two innings.
Austin Casillas (0-2) threw four innings with two strikeouts.
Jonathan Tellier gave up just one hit in 1 1/3 innings of relief with two strikeouts.
