ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Dec. 2, 2016) — No. 14 CSUSB completed its season Friday night in a 3-0 loss to No. 16 Western Washington in the NCAA West Region semifinals, played at Alaska-Anchorage.
Junior All-West Region OH
Lauren Nicholson led the Coyotes with 17 kills and added 13 digs in a 25-20, 25-22, 26-24 defeat. Freshman
Moira Murphy and sophomore
Hailey Jackson had nine kills each.
The Coyotes, who finished 25-5 overall, were undone by their serve-receive game. Nine receiving errors and eight serving errors gave WWU the advantage, despite the Vikings hitting only .228 in the three-set match.
Sophomore setter
Jayann DeHoog had 34 assists on the night and finished with an average of 12.68 assists/set in her last seven matches; an increase of 1.5 assists better than her season average.
CSUSB loses just two seniors — All-American OH
Malika O'Brien and libero
Abbey Vollkommer. O'Brien had seven kills, six digs, and three block assists in her career finale, while Vollkommer finished her career with 19 digs.
The Coyotes reached the regional semifinals for the 17
th straight year.
NOTES: Upon conclusion of the tournament, Nicholson and DeHoog were named to the all-tournament team.
