ROHNERT PARK (Nov. 18, 2016) — Balanced scoring keyed the Coyotes past Academy of Art 76-72 in nonconference play Friday night at Sonoma State.
Khleem Perkins hit all 10 of his free throw attempts and finished with a team-high 17 points.
Blake McBride and
Phil Reed each scored 12 points and
Everett Turner and
Dorian Butler added 10 each as CSUSB improved to 2-1 overall entering Saturday's game against Saint Martin's.
The Coyotes led throughout most of the game, but needed Perkins' perfect effort at the line among other for the win.
Perkins hit two free throws with 1:34 left that put CSUSB ahead 71-69. After a blown AAU layup,
Eli Brown extended the lead to four, 73-69 with 48 seconds left. The Urban Knights pulled to within a point on a 3-pointer from Victor Nwaba, but on CSUSB's next possession,
Ramon Eaton scored on a layup and CSUSB led 75-72 with 18 seconds left and the Coyotes held on.
CSUSB hit 49 percent from the field on 24 of 49 shooting. McBride hit all four of his field goals from the 3-point stripe.
Butler led the Coyotes on the glass with seven rebounds.
