SEASIDE (Nov. 12, 2016) — Phil Reed played a breakout game, earning a double-double with game-highs of 22 points and 14 rebounds as CSUSB led virtually the entire game in its 85-72 victory over Concordia, Ore., in play at Cal State Monterey Bay.
The Coyotes (1-1 overall) return to the Bay Area this week when they play Academy of Art (Friday) and Saint Martin's (Saturday) at Sonoma State.
After the Cavaliers grabbed a 2-0 lead in the early going, the Coyotes produced a 55.9 percent effort from the field and led 44-24 at the break. The Coyotes turned the ball over just eight times in the contest and dominated in bench play, outscoring their foe 34-6.
Four players scored in double figures. After Reed's effort,
Khleem Perkins added 12,
Eli Brown 11 and
Ramon Eaton 10.
Seven different players had assists, led by
Everett Turner with six. The Coyotes hit 9 of 27 from 3-point land with
Nolan Kelly and
Eli Brown with three each.
Reed's 10 field goals marked the first time in nearly two years a Coyote scored at least 10 FGs (Jacob Thomas, Western Washington, Dec. 19, 2014).
