LOS ANGELES (Oct. 25, 2016) — The Coyotes have guaranteed themselves no worse than a first-round home game when the CCAA Tournament begins Nov. 1.
Thanks to
Rachael Figg's goal in the 50
th minute, CSUSB defeated host Cal State L.A. 1-0 in CCAA play Sunday afternoon. It was the junior's team-leading sixth goal as the Coyotes remained unbeaten in their last eight games and stretched their winning streak to six straight.
CSUSB (8-5-1, 7-2-1 CCAA) could finish as high as second in the CCAA and no worse than fourth when the postseason begins next month. But waiting in line for CSUSB at Coyote Premier Field is league-leading UC San Diego on Thursday and the game shapes up to be the game of the week in the conference as UCSD is on a hot streak as well, winning 11 straight.
The Coyotes were the opportunistic team Sunday, as CSULA out-shot the Coyotes 14-7 with four SOG to CSUSB's two. But Figg got the job done on the feed from
Alyssa Campa and CSUSB won its third straight 1-0 contest.
Senior GK
Megan Vina improved to 8-2-1 with her fifth shutout.
CSULA dropped to 6-7-2, 5-5.
