Box Score 2 ROHNERT PARK (Jan. 31, 2016) -- The 2016 Coyotes delivered a message with a successful weekend at one of the more difficult home venues in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
CSUSB took its series against Sonoma State, winning two of three games with a 7-4 victory in the opener, but losing 8-7 in 11 innings in Sunday's finale.
Now 2-1, the Coyotes return to the road this weekend with a four-game series at West Region power Dixie State.
Game 2: Coyotes 7, Sonoma State 4The teams picked up play in the bottom of the sixth inning with the game tied at 3-3.
SSU scored a run in the sixth, but CSUSB answered back with a run of its own in the seventh, then put the game away with a three-run eighth.
Grant Buchanan delivered a two-out single to center that scored
Austin Lundeen, who led off the seventh on a walk, and the game was tied at 4-4.
Three straight walks loaded the bases full of Coyotes in the eighth, before a methodical approach brought in
Jordan Simon,
William Ouellette and
Dylan Lohman.
Lundeen earned an RBI-single, and
Andrew Lopez followed with a sac fly. Then
Damion Edmonds brought in Lohman on a ground-out and CSUSB led 7-4.
Buchanan had three hits with two RBI.
Reliever
Don Sullivan earned the victory with six strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings. Ouellette earned his second save in as many games with two strikeouts in the ninth.
Game 3: Sonoma State 8, Coyotes 11 inningsAndrew O'Malley led off the 11th with a solo home run that gave SSU the victory.
Jake Caron led the Coyotes at the plate with two doubles, the first that brought in Edmonds in the fifth, and the latter, a two-run double in the sixth that scored Edmonds (walk) and Lopez (error).
Brian Lockey went 3 for 5, while Oullette had two hits with two RBI, and
David Romo with two hits and an RBI.
Lohman had a multi-hit game with two singles.
