POMONA (Jan. 28, 2016) -- A collective poor shooting night cost the Coyotes in their 52-45 loss at Cal Poly Pomona in CCAA basketball Thursday night.
Senior
Alexcia Mack led the Coyotes (10-7, 7-6 CCAA) with 11 points and
Chelsea Barnes added 10.
Sophie Bhasin added seven as CSUSB fired only 24.6 percent from the floor, despite taking 17 more shots than the Broncos (7-12, 5-7).
The Coyotes trailed 16-5 after one period, but came back with a spirited second-quarter rally and the teams went into halftime tied at 23-23.
CSUSB led early in the fourth quarter, thanks to a pair of free throws from Bhasin that put her team up 37-35 with 7:30 left. But CPP answered with 10 straight points, and the Coyotes only got as close as two down the stretch.
A 5-0 spurt with Barnes scoring on a 3-point play and two free throws from Mack pulled CSUSB to 47-45 with 1:03 left.
But Mary Williams hit a jumper that made a two-possession game and the Broncos held on for the victory.
Williams led with 19 points and 13 rebounds, while Priscilla Brooks also had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
THe Coyotes are at Humboldt State on Saturday night.
